See the forests of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. Learn from some of India's most disadvantaged communities the ancient art of pottery and practice Yoga in a rich bio-diversity hotspot.
Day 01: Nagpur - Pench
On arrival at Nagpur you will be transferred by coach to Mahua Vann, your home in the lush forests of Pench.Pench National Park, nestling in the lower southern reaches of the Satpuda hills is named after the Pench river, meandering through the park from north to south it is located on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra. Pench National Park, comprises of 758 sq Kms, of which a core area of 299 sq km forms Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park and the Mowgli Pench Sanctuary with the remaining 464 sq km of as the buffer area.
The area of the present tiger reserve has a glorious history. A description of its natural wealth and richness occurs in Ain-i-Akbari. Pench Tiger Reserve and its neighborhood is the original setting of Rudyard Kipling's most famous work, The Jungle Book.
After lunch, late this afternoon you will proceed on an exciting Nature Safari.
This evening's safari takes you through the undulating topography of the Nature reserve which supports a mosaic of vegetation ranging from moist, sheltered valleys to open, dry deciduous forest. Over 1200 species of plants have been recorded from the area including several rare and endangered plants as well as plants of ethno-botanical importance. The area has always been rich in wildlife. The high habitat heterogeneity favours high population of Chital and Sambar. Pench tiger reserve has the highest density of herbivores in India.
Day 02: Pench
Wake up early this morning and proceed on yet another Jungle Safari. Be ready with your senses to absorb an amazing educational experience. Spot a variety of animals such as Spotted deer, Sambhar, Nilgai, Jackal, Wild dogs and Bison including many more. You also stand a very good chance to come face to face with leopards and even the King of the Jungle, the Tiger. There are about 300 species of birds in this forest and you will be able to see quite a few.
Later this morning you will visit the nearby 'Potters Village' to acquaint yourself with the traditional arts of this region.
To work with the earth is therapeutic. Here you will not just see expert potters working on wheels to shape fantastic pots, but you will get an opportunity to roll up your sleeves to design and shape your own pots. Take a walk along the dusty roads of the village and experience how the villagers go about their daily lives. Interact and share a picnic lunch with the kids at their local school, become a teacher for a day as you help the tribal children with their school work, conduct a class in English, their shy smiles are sure to charm you.
Day 03: Pench
Early this morning you will be introduced to Yoga.Dive deep within yourself and explore your energy through Prananyam and Yogasanas with an Internationally Certified Yoga Teacher. This workshop is targeted at beginners and you will find the experience of doing yoga in natural surroundings very energizing. Aimed at improving balance, flexibility, strength and endurance, yoga is a complete work-in which leaves you with more energy after the exercise.
Later this morning you will accompany a naturalist as you trek the forest learning about the various plants, herbs, flowers and trees found in this rich bio-diversity hotspot.
This evening you proceed on yet another Jungle Safari.
Day 04: Pench Amodagarh - Pench
After breakfast this morning you will proceed on a days excursion to Amodagarh.Early this morning you will drive through the dark shadows of the Seeoni Hills, trek through a tiny forsaken trail barely visible under a forest floor covered in brown leaves and short slim trees to discover a stunningly beautiful valley, through which flows a gentle blue-green river. This is the home of Mowgli, the man-cub who captured the world's imagination in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Spend the day in the beautiful location listening to the songs of the cicadas and trying to spot the descendents of Sher Khan and Bagheera.
Day 05: Pench - Nagpur
After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to Nagpur airport for your flight back home.Return home with happy memories spent with friends and of your Outlearn Outdoor School Trip.
